THE GOSPEL TRUTH-- Being patient with outrselves...

I’m going to start this post with a quote and then elaborate on it quickly. This is from a 2011 Ensign talk titled "FORGET ME NOT." It’s by President Uchtdorf. The quote reads,

"I want to tell you something that I hope you will take in the right way: God is fully aware that you and I are not perfect.

Let me add: God is also fully aware that the people you think are perfect are not.

And yet we spend so much time and energy comparing ourselves to others--usually comparing our weaknesses to their strengths. This drives us to create expectations for ourselves that are impossible to meet. As a result, we never celebrate our good efforts because they seem to be less than what someone else does.

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses.

It’s wonderful that you have strengths.

And it is part of your mortal experience that you do have weaknesses.

God wants to help us to eventually turn all our weaknesses into strengths, but He knows that this is a long-term goal. He wants us to become perfect, and if we stay on the path of discipleship, one day we will. It’s OK that you’re not quite there yet. Keep working on it but stop punishing yourself."

I know that when we sin we are unable to see ourselves in the light that the lord sees us. When we put ourselves inside situations where we need to seek forgiveness we often cut ourselves off spiritually to see the wonderful things that the Lords has provided us. By punishing ourselves we expect sin to be like drinking poison and seeing the other person die.it ultimately is poisonous for our souls and for our eternal progression.

I know this to be true. The gospel of the church of Jesus Christ is true. As a member of the Lords true church I know that we have a wonderful plan that provides us happiness. It gives us all opportunities to fail and to come back and be better. We are all given agency (the right to choose good from evil) and can fail, but when we do the Lord is not far from us reaching out ready to save us and heal us. I testify to you that the Lord knows you and your struggles that he is near you in lots of ways and providing small miracles wherever you go. I leave that with you in the name of our savior and redeemer Jesus Christ.
